The speech

Lights. Camera. Action!

When I was a little girl, another lifetime ago (pause for audience laughter), way before blogging had been invented, I used to keep a diary. It was hardly top literature material, the pages were full of dilemmas over spots, boys and maths teachers. And I couldn't imagine any of my diaries being of any interest to anyone but myself. Sometimes even I failed to find them interesting.
Dear Boz I used to write in my diary under the duvet every night. And every year I would receive a brand new diary from Father Christmas. I have no idea why I called my diaries Boz, I just liked the name.
Fast forward to the year 2008, and I’m still writing a diary. But this time I have called it Flying Pink Elephants. Again, I have no idea why, I just liked the name. But there’s a difference this time, as other people are actually reading it. Readers from Belgium, Singapore, Japan, America and Malta to name a few home countries. And in return, they allow me to peep at their diary and their lives. I think that’s a fair exchange. But you don’t even have to write your own blog to read mine, as long as you have internet connection, the sky's the limit. What a technical world we now live in.
It was only last week that I celebrated FPE’s first year, and how very apt that I should receive an award on this first birthday. The Special Friendship award from my friend:
Thank you, I am proud to accept this award and I shall look after it, keep it clean, and display it on my blog.
I would also like to pass this award on to the many wonderful friends I have met through Flying Pink Elephants. So without further ado, in no particular order, this award goes to:

(Round of applause from the audience).

I should have been an actress!

Thanks so much for the award :) Great speech :)..It's great to keep in touch through blogging, and I hope we'll have an opportunity to meet in the future!

You're welcome Krystle

It certainly is great to keep in touch through blogging, and who knows what opportunities we shall have in the future.

CONGRATSSSSSSSSSSS for the award and THANKS for sharing it with me! ;-D

I also used to write in my journal book...but mostly in the form of poetry so that nobody understood it (for fear that my parents or brother read it) HA HA HA HA...

I can't imagine my life without blogging, esp. when I first moved to Finland (the first months were the toughest of all!).

Ha ha! ironic eh? you deserve the award and thanks for handing it over!!! your should've thanked every "tom, dick and harry" ha the oscars ya know?

Thanks Amel! My pleasure, with passing the award onto you.

I can imagine the first months in Finland must have been tough. Thank goodness for blogging hey!

No probs Nick! Nice to be able to pass it on to you.

Hi Jyankee

Good point with thanking every Tom, Dick and Harry. I should have thanked my parents, my school teachers, my rabbit and my agent. Oh hang on, I haven't got a rabbit or an agent...!

I know what you mean about it being ironic setting a blog up to keep in touch with the folks back at home, but they don't seem to read it! When I first set up FPE I emailed the link to my friends, hoping they would read and comment and it would be a way of us all keeping in touch as we are now all over the place. But only one of my blog less friends comments and people I have never met before seem more interested in my life!

Take care.

Thanks a lot :) I also think of blogs as diaries, in fact that's why I started blogging myself :)

Congratulations on the award! I agree with Krystle that it is great to keep in touch through blogging :)

PS. (I can't see the picture of the award) :(

Hello La Delirante

Can you see the picture of the award now? I hope so?

Here's to more diary entries! I have to actually do some work now, then I can come and visit you.

Congratulations on your award, and yours was a marvelous speech, FPE. Thank you so much for passing the award on to me :)

I never kept a diary as a kid. I tried when I was at that angst riddled adolescent stage, then my mother found it, and the ensuing trauma put the kibosh on it for good! Besides, I never was that regimented. I set up my blog as a place to vent or explore ideas. Initially, I gave the address out, now I keep it to myself, as I have caused offense. Especially when it became clear that independent "virtual" friendships were developing. It is an interesting turn of events, no?

Hi Rebecca

I didn't burst into tears mid speech so maybe there is hope for me yet?!

You are welcome with passing the award on. A well deserved one in my opinion!

Blogging is a great way to vent and explore ideas.
